Event Details

Join Claire Walsh, Herts MDO, Cas Saunders, and Claire Madge from Autism in Museums to discuss how museums can use initiatives to remove barriers austic people may face when visiting museums.

The day will follow a discussion on what Autism is, how common it is and how it presents. Each of us will talk from our personal perspectives and this will inform our programme looking at how you can create a welcoming environment for people with autism, how to work with families and schools. We will also look at working with autistic staff and volunteers. Claire Madge will talk about the Autism in Museums campaign and there will be a representative from the Hertfordshire Additional Needs Database talking about the scheme. St Albans Museums are going to talk about what they’ve been working on and where you might seek help and support.

The overall aim is to ensure attendees are much better informed about autism and how they can make their museums fully inclusive and also which support groups and other advice and information is out there.
