Event Details

Are you Chair of a smaller museum? Are you looking to be more effective in your role?

We know that the role of Chair although rewarding can be lonely. In a smaller organisation, there is often little resource to support the Chair and limited time to reflect on the nature of the role.

Join us in Bishop’s Stortford for this full-day workshop for Chairs and Vice Chairs. This is a great opportunity to to develop your skills and share experiences of managing relationships and board dynamics and how to strengthen your organisation. Lunch is included to give you more time to network with fellow Chairs and Vice Chairs of smaller charities.

This event, is being run jointly with the Association of Chairs and bookings are via their website

This workshop will provide you with practical guidance and tools to help you be more effective in your role. The workshop has been developed with the complexities of chairing a smaller organisation (with an annual income of under £1 million) in mind; such as operating with limited resources and individuals often having both operational and governance roles. You will have the opportunity to share learning with Chairs of other smaller organisations.

Outcomes:

The morning session will focus on managing relationships and board dynamics and will help you to be able to:

  • Understand what will help you get the best from your trustees
  • Have tools to work effectively with your CEO and or senior team
  • Have ideas for identifying, recruiting and effectively working with new trustees
  • Gain insights and top tips from other Chairs of smaller organisations

The afternoon session will focus on strengthening your organisation and will help you to be able to:

  • Understand the role of the board in strategy development and managing resources in a smaller charity
  • Identify key threats to your organisation and how to manage them
  • Discover further sources of support to strengthen your organisation
  • Gain insights and top tips from other Chairs of smaller organisations
