An opportunity for volunteer co-ordinators in our region’s museums to participate in a 4 session volunteer management qualification

We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for volunteer co-ordinators in our region’s museums to participate in a 4 session volunteer management course and qualification.

Christine Laverock is an experienced trainer whose work is much appreciated by participants on previous courses run for SHARE. Much of her work is with the voluntary and community sector and previous participants on her courses have given us excellent feedback about her way of delivering the courses, her communication and in-depth understanding of the subject.

“Christine was great. She allowed for sharing and discussion while keeping us all on point. It truly was an immensely productive course that has changed he way we work with volunteers at our museum.

Her knowledge was fantastic – a tricky subject full of theories that she navigated through well. She did immensely well to adjust to a Zoom delivery during lockdown; tweaking timings and going shorter but more focused to avoid delegate fatigue. ” (participant on previous programme.)

By signing up to this session you are committing to attend 4 workshops: 8 September (Ely), 5 or 6 October (online) , 3 November (Ipswich) , 1 December. (Ipswich).

In person session are all 9:30 – 13:30. The online sessions are 9:30 – 12:00.

The course is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and the tutor will be Christine Laverock.

Please book your place before 30th June 2022

Who is the course for? – Anyone currently working with volunteers in an Eastern Region museum in a co-ordination role.

  • Priority will be given to applicants whose museums are either Accredited, or Working Towards Accreditation.

Time commitment: The expectation from the ILM is that the whole qualification requires a commitment of 60 hours (10 of which are within the 4 workshop days). The workshop sessions are on Wednesdays and Thursdays: 8 September (Ely), 5 or 6 October (online) , 3 November (Ipswich) , 1 December. (Ipswich).

The rest of the time consists of assignments to be carried out between sessions. These will include looking at their organisation’s policies, undertaking skills assessments with volunteers, providing feedback and undertaking a written assessment. The tutor provides all the required information, practical activity templates and tutorial support to assist participants with this work.

Cost: £200 per participant from an Eastern Region Museum within the Accreditation scheme. (This cost is subsidised, but please contact Sally Ackroyd at the SHARE team if this cost is prohibitive for your museum).
