Following the tragic accident a year ago at the Windmill the Heckington Windmill Trust have invited HEN members to attend a meeting at the site to view the changes made to their operations and hear from managers and volunteers on the learning from the accident.

11.00 Presentation – Mill Manager Jim Bailey will outline the background to the incident involving a restored gas oil engine, their safety management approach and arrangements and the timeline from the start of the day to the aftermath of the accident and events since.


11.30 The key learning points regarding risk assessment, the hierarchy of controls, safety management systems and emergency planning.


12.00 Viewing the installation to see the engineering controls now in use for the starting and running of the gas oil engine and other plant.

Please note this meeting is out of area but in view of the importance of this topic the opportunity to see the installations and learn from the experience make this worth travelling for. Check your travel route as depending on traffic this might be a 3 to 4 hour journey!

  • It is a condition of receiving this ACE funded training that the online evaluation sent to the email address provided at the point of booking is completed by the specified deadline. This deadline is in the email notification unless a paper evaluation is specifically requested and submitted on the day of the training session.

  • By booking a place you agree that you are booking as a representative of your organisation and should you cancel your booking without sufficient notice your organisation is responsible for paying the late cancellation fee of £50.
