Event Details

This day is for all museums who are looking to review or develop their business plans, and want to kickstart their thinking. It is led by – Sam Hunt (ex-Director of AIM and Museum Consultant).

Join a small lively group of people from other museums to share ideas and develop your thinking.

The day will include;

  • How to involve your staff, volunteers and stakeholders in your visioning and planning

  • How to develop your museum as a successful operation.

  • The chance to share ideas and start to develop a fresh vision

  • How to develop a business plan from your vision

  • Case studies of successful processes in other museums

  • Available resources, templates, case studies and other sources of help

We strongly recommend that at least two delegates per organisation come along to get the most from this planning and visioning opportunity. e.g. Trustee and Museum Manager/Curator.

Previous participants have reported how much more useful it has been if there have been two of them to discuss and share and take the day’s ideas back to their colleagues.

Participants of similar SHARE sessions with Sam Hunt have said:

“Sam clearly had lots of experience & importantly understood the range of museums and their needs”

 “We (the Operations Director and Museum Curator) first met Sam Hunt on a SHARE Business Planning for Museums day.  We had enrolled on the course in the hope of getting a new perspective on an ongoing redevelopment initiative that was starting to ‘drift’.  The course was absolutely on the money; practical and usable and littered with real-life examples of what to do (and occasionally what to avoid).”

“Sam was absolutely excellent, friendly and engaging, very knowledgeable and full of really great advice”

Refreshments will be provided on arrival but please bring your own lunch, or you can use the museum cafe if you prefer. Please arrive from 10.15am for a 10.30am start.

Please see our FAQs for any questions relating to our training programme.
