Event Details

For everyone who is a museum trustee. We invite you to spend a day with other trustees at the Guildhall in Bury St Edmunds thinking about how your board works, and how you could improve yours and enjoy it more!

The day will be led by Dr Nick Winterbotham who, since commencing his museum career in Norfolk, has worked at CEO and Director level in eight different arts and heritage organisations in the UK. He has also chaired two charity boards, an NGO working party and a school governing body.   He recently led our Inside Museums programme for SHARE Museums East.

While he acknowledges that “Boards can be places where competent people do incompetent things”, Nick is a lifelong believer in the possibility of effective leadership as a collective enterprise – especially in governance.

This programme offers the opportunity to do corporately competent things and to enjoy the personal commitment that brought you to a boardroom in the first place, while attending to the conflict pitfalls that might otherwise befall.

Why not take a step into new ways of handling conflictions, risk and transformation?

“Nick was very knowledgeable, but more importantly, he was able to facilitate discussions and draw a deeper level of thinking out of the participants so that the group was able to come to its own conclusions and reflect upon their own issues within their own museums.”  (Inside Museums Participant 2019)

Please arrive at 9.45am for a 10am start. Refreshments on arrival and lunch will be provided.

If you have an further questions, you may find them answered on our FAQs page.
